THE HANOI TIMES — Residents and tourists in Hanoi will enjoy free bus and metro rides during the upcoming 80th National Day holiday from August 30 to September 2, according to the Hanoi People’s Committee.
The policy comes under a decision issued by the municipal government on August 23.

The fare exemption will apply to all 128 subsidized bus routes in Hanoi and the two operating metro lines of Cat Linh - Ha Dong) and Nhon - Cau Giay .Free services will cover four consecutive days.
Single-trip travelers will receive a charge-free paper ticket each, while monthly commuters will present their IDs as usual.
The initiative aims to support residents and visitors attending the celebratory events, as well as those traveling to revolutionary historical sites.
Through the free-ride program, Hanoi wants to encourage the use of public transport, and ease traffic pressure during the capital’s busiest holiday period.
Under the plan, the Hanoi Center for Transport Management and Operation (Tramoc), bus operators, and Hanoi Metro are responsible for implementing the free service.
The Hanoi Department of Construction and relevant agencies will monitor passenger volumes and adjust service frequency and schedules as needed to meet potential increases in demand.
The city also requests accurate tracking of the number of free tickets issued to ensure proper financial reconciliation under subsidy regulations.
Ward- and commune-level authorities must promote public awareness, encourage residents to uphold cultural values, and support visitors, helping leave a lasting impression of a graceful, civilized Hanoi.
According to Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, the upcoming holiday is an opportunity for the capital to project its image as a “City for Peace” - friendly, and hospitable.
