THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has launched a citywide campaign to enhance environmental hygiene and urban aesthetics, aiming to build a cleaner and more sustainable capital.

At a hybrid conference on July 14, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh urged all districts and agencies to take part in the “Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful” campaign, calling it essential for promoting urban civilization and long-term development.

From August 1 to September 5, Hanoi will pilot the use of advanced sanitation equipment, including vacuum trucks, high-pressure road washers, and mobile waste collectors, to replace manual cleaning methods.

The machinery has been tested since July in inner-city wards such as Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Giang Vo, and Ngoc Ha. With initial results proving effective, city authorities plan to expand the model citywide.

Hanoi will install more than 1,000 portable toilets and open an additional 400 restrooms located in schools, hospitals, and private residences for public use, free of charge.

Representatives from wards such as Cua Nam, Hoan Kiem, and Ba Dinh highlighted issues including sidewalk encroachment by small businesses and limited monitoring tools, as well as poor public awareness.

Local authorities have urged stricter enforcement and penalties for violations alongside community efforts to beautify neighborhoods in time for the August Revolution and National Day celebrations.

Furthermore, Hanoi aims to finish restructuring waste service contracts and technical standards by December 2025 to ensure uninterrupted public services.

Through these efforts, Hanoi aims to set a benchmark for a cleaner, more livable capital city.
